“Windowlight,” by JC Alfier

ménage à trois
Antonio, steal me away from him
with a mango slice
on the tip of your knife
marimba is a sea-bird cry
and salty window panes
glint in winter sun
one two-one two-one
antonio, you know
he isn’t beautiful
like you
come morning I slip away
charlie vibes dark rain
the el hums a baritone
neon creeps out the brass
I sleep like broken glass
but oh, that mystery
irresistibly
calls to me, Antonio
don’t let me go

(Editor’s Note: debora’s short story “Coloring Outside the Lines” was the first winning story in the Jerry Jazz Musician Short Fiction Contest, published in October of 2002. The contest is currently in its 67th edition)
