Lester Young, 1946

Solace
I relish the cultivation of my Lester afternoons
an endeavor still absorbing at my age
captive in that garden of ambient sound
…………………that Young tenor breath
………………………….a zephyr expulsion stirring
atmosphere rare these days for this climate
caressing time & movement with a tone
to stream still water
…………………or trill
………………………….the becalmed
eternally fine
…………………perpetually mellow
………………………….to the end

Good to see you are still listening to good jazz, Terry! I remember working with you at Tang’s Imports in Phoenix–you turned me on to Zoot Sims at a party at your house. You have maintained your classic taste. My favorite Terryism: “I had a great breakfast this morning: Chili and GIN!” Keep on keepin’ on, brother! Jim Mack
