Mumbles
……………(for the Oscar Peterson Trio and Clark Terry)
dig that funky piano kicking things off
as only Mister Peterson can, drawing in
Mister Clark Terry who starts jazz mumbling
in a ragged old voice that whips out a solo
worthy of his trumpet damn this mumbling
is wild scat singing by another name
and that piano bops right along with that
crazy man crazy voice unleashed to make
any sounds it wants needs can imagine
and Mister Ray Brown master bassist is right there
when needed to help carve a sonic masterpiece
of pure fun pure insanity designed to restore
sanity to all listeners who arrived weighted down
with the blues add the steady drumming and blues
are blown sky high dance to the beat mumble along
with the master and feel your body unleashed ready
to dance man dance out the door and back into life
