Return to Forever—Chick Corea
I’m in the shade on a 90 degree day
as Chick Corea’s “Spain” plays
taking me back to the Seventies:
long play afternoons,
field parties,
cool moon nights,
a chorus of friendly girls’ faces,
drinking beers near an open fire.
Wild nights learning to drive
being chased by inner demons
finding one’s original self
beside the railroad tracks
then hopping the train to Georgetown.
In head shops learning to listen
to jazz as incense burned
and hemp smoke rose;
learning to see rocks and waves as one;
how everything changed so quickly
back then: Music was the alchemy;
fusion, the message;
vinyl, the currency;
the price of admission, your mind.
