The photography of Sigitas Kondratas — a resident of Vilnius, Lithuania — caught my eye this week. His interesting technique conveys the music’s movement, artistry and intimacy. It is refreshing to see the work of contemporary jazz musicians interpreted by an Eastern European photographer of this caliber.
Mr. Kondratas provided me with this brief personal introduction of himself and of his work to share:
“I am currently a resident of Vilnius, Lithuania, where I am a member of the Lithuanian Union of Art Photographers. I became interested in jazz while attending school, when my neighbor unexpectedly invited me to listen to a “different” music – jazz music. After that, I found I could not live without jazz, and I began collecting it on vinyl LP, cassettes, and CD’s. That led to my going to jazz concerts, where I would take photographs.
“I am not simply interested in capturing the event. When taking pictures during live concerts, I try to convey the mood of the music with my photography. Who I take pictures of are not important to me, as they are not portraits of the musicians – they are portraits of jazz music.”
The ten photographs shown below are only a portion of what is available for viewing on Mr. Kondratas’ website, which you can visit by clicking here.
