Sinking Into Night
in evening western sky, golden clouds pile
beneath sinking crimson sun and spill
toward river and ocean with the beauty
and rhythmic precision of notes tumbling
from a vibraphone during a dazzling
improvisation by Milt Jackson
drops of falling color from the fading
evening sky spin the mind round and round
with the wild autoschediastic freedom
of sun tumbling into sea and the daring
song of Milt Jackson filling heart memory
and providing a path to a future

A really good poem, Mike – lyrical and fine, as well as striking a positive note for the times.
