“Sister,” by Warren Goodson
.
.
Shit’s About to Go Down
Must I retrieve my black leather
jacket from the chest in my closet
My Afro pick, discarded in a
forgotten drawer?
Must I wear that T-Shirt with
Malcolm X emblazoned on my
breast, my right fist held high
reaching for the sky?
Must I shout the words of
Angela, Stokely, Huey,
H. Rap Brown, because
shit is about to go down?
Must I let them know that
this time the revolution
will be televised, live and
on social media?
I am telling them NOW, that
the fire is THIS time, this land is
not just theirs, it’s also MINE
Shit’s about to go down, sublime

Listen to a 1967 recording of Nina Simone sing “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free”

I’m a big fan of Nina Simone and always enjoy hearing her music, this was a nice and an appropriate surprise.
Love the artwork!
I found this a really powerful and eloquent poem, Aurora. It spoke from the heart and rang out as vitally true and important.
