if i could
i’d ride the trains
again
just to make it all go
away
like that phone call i
got that evening
from sis
or that last conversation
we had
where i heard a ghost in
your voice
but i figured you would
hang on
and so, i pour scotch
as ella fitzgerald makes loss
into a song
you still linger within me
like a melody
all night
long

This is a touching poem which very skillfully ties human experience to the work of a jazz master. As usual, Erren Kelly creates a fine poem.
