“Archie,” by Russell duPont

Miles To Go
On my walks alone lately I fantasize
that I’ll come across a woman my age
give or take a few years.
She’ll be listening to Miles, or Monk,
or Horace Silver, and reading
one of my poetry books.
I’ll say, do you like it?,
and based on her answer
I may reveal myself.
But this is a fantasy so, of course,
she’ll answer, I found it in a little free library.
I can’t imagine why anyone would give it away.
It’s a keeper! and that will be my opening.
And maybe then I’ll find my place again.
I thought I was home once, but was awakened
as if from my dream. And I find myself
walking alone again and not liking it
as much as before.
I’ve miles to go before I’m home again.
