“Let the Lady Sing”
Let the lady sing.
Let her wail the air
with lost lovers and nights.
Let her sing my song,
A song of weeping
behind tight doors,
of nights with two pillows for
one head.
Let her sing as me
as laughter tears at her throat,
my song as her breath,
a warm spray spurting life from my days.
Let the lady sing my joy,
my fears, my foolish thoughts,
the loneliness burning like a lightbulb
dangling from my heart.
