Following World War II, the trumpeter Jack Sheldon was a popular figure, playing in many of the era’s most distinguished West Coast orchestras and recordings. He also did some acting in Hollywood, starring in the TV series Run Buddy Run, and for years appeared on TV as Merv Griffin’s nightly sidekick, where is sense of humor and jokester persona were on full display.
