…..Born just outside Montreal in 1928, Maynard Ferguson became an important voice on trumpet while in the Stan Kenton Orchestra (1950 – 1953) before eventually forming his own big band in 1957. He was a versatile player who excelled on a variety of instruments (in addition to trumpet, he played trombone, saxophone and french horn), and was especially known for his ability to play in a high register.
