Blues In Maude’s Flat
It was the sixties.
“It’s cool,” he said.
“You’ll dig it.”
A row of attached
and run-down
brick three-stories
on a dark side-street
on the dark side of town
A bluesy tinge
from Lateef’s sax
flows up from
the ebony shadows
one flight down.
She wore a tight skirt
and a beige knitted pullover.
Her straight black hair,
fell in tiny braids
to just above her shoulders
Without saying anything,
she reached out,
took my hand
and started to sway
with the music.
No need to speak
as we moved
against each other.
The Blues were talkin’.
