by Dave Leiker
God was laughing when he made you.
He held you up and pressed his lips against your skin
till you laughed, too.
That’s why please hush
and let me listen to your body
and press my lips against it,
God made you of perfect words
a perfect change of fleshly shape
with no need for further touch.
Then, as all creators do especially poets
he denied it all
and breathed you life
